Don's Biography

Don Mial and his family have lived in this county since the early 1800's. Over the past thirty years he has served the people of North Carolina as a soldier and as a civilian public servant. Don recently returned from Iraq after serving with our country's first National Guard Brigade deploying to Iraq. Don volunteered and went to Louisiana in support of Katrina. He's held a number of jobs in state government during his 28 years of service to the people of North Carolina, and he considers his profession that of being a Public Servant.

Don's military career spans over 30 years, serving during the Vietnam War, the Cold War, Desert Storm and Operation Iraq Freedom. He received numerous awards : Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal as well as many others. He retired from the military with over 30 years of service to our great county and state.

Don served as Precinct Chair, and presently serves as the Wake County Vice Chair of the party. He also presently serves as a Board Member of the Wake County Board of Adjustment and the N.C Board of Victim Compensation Commission as well as a member of N.C State Employees Association and the N.C Association of Educators.

In addition to a Master Degree in Public Administration, Don's education includes a Master of Science in Criminal Justice, as well as a B.A in History and Government and an A.A.S in Paralegal Technology.

Don resides in Wake County with his wife, Donna of 29 yrs. And they are the proud parents of three kids, Donald, Jr., DeVette, DeMaris and two grand kids Darryl III and Drew and son-in-law Darryl.
